Walking in Kashubian Switzerland

Walking in Kashubian Switzerland

Just as in the north of our country we have a small piece of Switzerland in the form of a locality known as "Czecho-Saxon Switzerland", we can find a similar traditional area in the north of Poland in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, known as Kaszuby or "Kashubian Switzerland", among our Polish neighbors.

This locality is rich in forests, lakes and the coast of the Baltic Sea, intertwined with paths and roads that allow us to discover local monuments, nature, attractions and the traditional culture of the inhabitants - the Kashubs, who speak Polish with their own dialect different from the rest of Poland.

An interesting feature is the open-air museum in Wdzydze Kiszewskie, which focuses on the presentation and preservation of local traditional culture. The Kashubia region is also known for the Tricity, which includes Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot. All three cities are worth a visit, with Gdańsk as the most impressive, rich in history and monuments.

Another point of interest is the Hel peninsula, called the "sand spit". It is only 150 meters wide and driving it on the road is a truly extraordinary experience for us. The seaside region of Kashubia is also famous for its goose meat and smoked fish, which you can taste in many places.

To visit the coast, it is ideal to rent a boat or take advantage of the offered sightseeing cruises. However, be careful as the very end of the peninsula is a military area and is closed off.

For those who prefer traditional resorts, a visit to Leba is ideal, where you will find everything you need. For those of us who prefer the "European Wild", there are beautiful bumpy roads that take us inland. Towns like Puck, Wieciza, Koscérka, Szymbark, Kartuzy and the beautiful Bytów Castle will open the door to local history and culture.

In short, the sea is beautiful, but for an individual adventure, the local hinterland is the right choice.
